Weh, I'm so full of salt over the Overwatch Valentine's Genji & Mercy voice lines. Partly because I'm not really into the idea of playable characters being romantically involved with each other in the game itself rather than just in the comics... and partly because it's not my ship, dang it. Mercy is a fun character and all, but she just isn't a robot. Make her a secret android and then we can talk, Blizzard.

Well, whatever, I can deal. I've become a master at ignoring canon ships, and this one isn't even actually canon at this point.

On more exciting news, new TF2 comic soon! I never really got into the game itself, but I'm weirdly fond of the tie-in comics. They're such unabashed crack that I can't help but love them.

Swapping over to yet another separate note--'nine days after the new year' is probably not the ideal time to talk about New Years Resolutions, but... whatever, I want to.

For 2016, I had...some resolutions. I say that because I can't for the life of me remember where the heck I wrote them down, and so now I can only remember about half of them. Some I definitely failed at (write 50k of original fic, for one), and one I actually succeeded at! I got 223k words down this year, beating my goal of 200k out quite decently. (I'd hoped to hit the 2225k milestone, just for posterity, but I ended up a bit burned out after Yuletide.)

This year, I'm trying to be a bit more organized: I've got a typed out listed of fifteen things I hope to accomplish this year, and once I get access to a printer I'm going to print it out and keep it where I can see it. No guarantees, I suppose--fifteen might be a bit overzealous--but I think even just working towards them will help me get happier. Some of the resolutions are a touch too personal to really belong here, but others are well within the scope of my DW! So here's some things I'm hoping to get done this year; hopefully this time 2018 I can feel good about what I've tried.

1.) Read at least 50 books this year.

Once upon a time this would've been a no-brainer, but my reading habits have slowed down a fair bit these past few years. It's a bummer, and I want to keep up with interesting-sounding books better, so I figured why not make it an official thing. So far I've only read one (The Martian, an excellent choice), but it's a start!

2.) Beat at least 10 games this year.

My gaming backlog is horrific, honestly and truly. It's just upsetting. These days I swear I only finish something if: a.) it's Pokemon, or b.) my girlfriend is playing it with me. (Not that she doesn't have great taste in games, but I'd like to play more own my own too. Beats staring listlessly at nothing, which is what happens if I let myself get sucked into an inactivity spiral.)

3.) Write 250k+ words + publish 40+ fics on AO3.

These are two separate ones, but sort of intertwined; they're more of a 'good job, keep going' thing than anything else, since I managed 200k words and forty fics exactly in 2016. (So much better than in my previous years, too. I seriously want to devote a whole separate braggy post about how much more prolific I am now than I used to be.)

4.) Complete a fic of at least 20k words.

My longest fic right now is... 12k, I think? And I'd like to manage something a bit longer. The feeling of accomplishment and all that. (I even have 15k of a WIP I really like stuck in a drawer of mine and everything, but I'm so stalled on it, ugh.)

So, that's the fannish portion of my NYR list, at least! Wish me luck on getting them completed.

Also, I'm kind of considering giving YoI a try. Sports anime normally really aren't my thing, but the hype is intense and I could use a fluffy chaser now that I've finished Battle Royale feat. Magical Girls and Also Sadness (aka Magical Girl Raising Project).
